Jul 2015

Magical day for siblings

Siblings of children with life-threatening conditions enjoyed a fun day activities and meeting new friends while becoming fully-fledged masters of their own magic.

Two Very Special Kids Sibling Days were held in the July school holidays, where 38 children participated in a range of activities around the theme “The Mastery of Magic’”.

Kids transformed the Very Special Kids grounds in Malvern into an enchanted wonderland while they created a castle out of various materials, developed team banners, made and decorated their own magic wands and engaged in physical challenges in the pursuit of courage, laughter, trust and team work.

A highlight of the day was an extraordinary magic show performed by fifteen-year-old Tim Mason, who recently travelled overseas to perform in the International Youth Magic Championships in Las Vegas. Tim opened the show with a flying table, as seen in Harry Potter, before working with the children in groups to teach them two magic tricks, which the children the performed on stage.

The Very Special Kids Sibling Support Program was created to address the impact on children, of having a brother or sister with a life-threatening condition. The activity-based Sibling Days help kids explore their emotions, enhance their self-esteem and meet peers.
