Postcard Project
Inspired by a website called Post Secrets, we are offering the wonderful Postcard Project to bereaved families.
Bereaved families who have participated in the project have found it to be extremely moving to create postcards containing messages to their very special child. Filled with love and longing, the cards shared emotions through pictures and words, with participants agreeing the process was powerful and helpful.
A mother shared her experience by saying, “I liked the postcard idea because of its simplicity. I see the idea of a postcard being a personal way to communicate, as they are written or made by hand, which is why I enjoyed writing mine. All I wanted was to say thanks to Ruby in all of the chaos that goes with the death of a child.”
The Postcard Project commenced in the Barwon Region, when families chose to do the postcards at home with each other and then bring them to a coffee morning where they were shown and talked about with a comfortable group of people who had all experienced the loss of their precious child. Everyone was sad. Everyone was touched. Everyone connected. It was then offered at the Bereaved Parent Weekend and will now be available to all bereaved families.
We hope that by putting the cards online you can all share these images and see the love expressed in the messages. If you wish to be involved in the Postcard Project, please contact your Family Support Worker or the Duty Worker.
