Children's Hospice

Briglia family story

Briglia hand - Very Special Kids 560

While Anthony and Danielle Briglia were coming to terms with the devastating news that their 15-month-old son Liam would not have much longer to live, they were asked to consider where they wanted him to be when he passed away.

During a time of confusion and stress where nothing seemed to make sense, this decision was an easy one to make. In what Danielle describes as the “best choice they made”, Liam came to Very Special Kids Hospice, where he peacefully passed away.

Very Special Kids Hospice in Malvern is a purpose-built children’s hospice where families can access planned and emergency respite, as well as end-of-life care. It was Australia’s first, and remains Victoria’s only, children’s hospice. Providing 24 hour specialist nursing care, the hospice is a home-away-from home that features bright lounge areas, soft-play areas, gardens, a music therapy room, a multi-sensory room and fun-filled school holiday and weekend activities.
