Temporary Relocation
In August 2021, construction will commence to completely rebuild the Very Special Kids children’s hospice. The rebuild is the most significant service improvement project in our history.
The new world-class hospice will have best practice clinical facilities to better support children of every age, size, cultural background and functional capability, well into the future.
To ensure we continue to meet the needs of the families and children in our care, for an interim period our respite and hospice support services will relocate to Monash Children’s Hospital, Clayton.
Very Special Kids will have a private and dedicated section on level 4 of the Monash Children’s Hospital which will accommodate 4 beds for planned and emergency respite as well as a private space for end-of-life care.
Families and children will also have access to all activity spaces and facilities throughout the hospital, including the Hoyts Cinema, Starlight Express Room, Ronald McDonald Family Room, group therapy areas, quiet indoor and outdoor spaces, play areas as well as therapy rooms.
Hospice services at Malvern will conclude 14 July 2021 and recommence at Monash Children’s Hospital early September for approximately 15 months. Families can book a hospice stay at Monash Children’s Hospital via bookings@vsk.org.au from September onwards. For more information about booking a respite stay click here.
