A Very Special Project
Very Special Kids is embarking on a complete rebuild of Victoria’s only children’s hospice.
The current hospice has provided thousands of seriously-ill children and their families with a home-away-from home for almost 25 years. However, today, the clinical needs of children are significantly more advanced. Children are living longer with these conditions into adolescence, placing higher care needs upon their families as full-time carers.
Our single biggest service improvement project has an overall target of $22.5m to enable the rebuild of a new world class centre and ensure the highest level of internationally led best practice care can be delivered for approximately the next ten years.
We are very grateful to have secured backing from both Federal and State Governments to support the project, however we can’t stop there. It’s vital we raise enough funding to help cover the increased running costs of this vastly improved facility, to ensure we can continue to provide the best possible support to families into the future.
We would also like to acknowledge the Chain Reaction Challenge Foundation who was the catalyst partner of our hospice rebuild project and over the past three years has not only ensured the project is thoroughly planned and the outcome maximised but has also now contributed almost $1million towards the rebuild.
We are a predominantly self-funded health charity, relying on the generosity of donors and the community and are turning to the public to help bring this Very Special Project to life.
