Supporting Very Special Kids this Christmas

It’s that time of year again! With our Fair behind us and December nearly here, Christmas activities supporting Very Special Kids are beginning and we couldn’t be feeling more cheer.

Malvern Xmas Trees

The Malvern Xmas Tree stall is again this year, selling on the grounds of Very Special Kids and they have also opened a second site in Hawthorn. Very Special Kids receives a percentage of every tree sold including their second site.

The stall will be open from Friday 30 November and they will be selling on our front lawn during the following times:

Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays from 10am

Saturday and Sunday from 7am

(Please note, they will not selling Tuesday and Thursdays)

Price inquiries, and pre-orders can be made at malvernxmastrees@gmail.com.

Rob and Leonie’s Christmas Lights

Rob and Leonie’s Christmas Lights have been running for the last few years, and are beloved by the Beaumaris community. They convert their entire front yard into a Christmas wonderland and encourage people to enter and make a donation to Very Special Kids. They raised over $10,000 in 2017 and have been working for weeks to make this year even bigger.

They will be doing an official Switch On The Lights event on Saturday 1 December at 9pm. Everyone is invited to join us for the opening night if you are available. Otherwise, you can visit every night from 9pm until Christmas Eve.

The address of the lights is 151 Dalgetty Rd, Beaumaris. More information can be found on their Facebook here.

Bayside Council’s Carols in the Park

Very Special Kids have been chosen as the official charity partner of the Bayside Council’s Carols in the Park. We will be attending with staff and volunteers to tin rattle, sell candles, and raise awareness. The event is attended by over 20,000 people so it will be a wonderful chance to spread the word of Very Special Kids to the Bayside community.

Family activities and stalls will start from 5:30pm, with the concert beginning at 7:30pm and ending with a fireworks display at 9:30pm.

It will be held at Dendy Park in Brighton, and you can find more information here.

Waverley Garden’s Shopping Centre

Waverley Gardens Shopping Centre are supporting Very Special Kids throughout December for the second year in a row. You can visit their information desk to purchase a wishing card for $5 and write a Christmas message to our families. All money will go to supporting our familes.

We will also be running a gift wrapping stall from 15 December to 22 December, with a gold coin donations to wrap your holiday presents.

Fair raises $106,572 for Very Special Kids

The Very Special Kids’ Fair was a huge success on Saturday, raising an amazing total of $106,572 to support children with life-threatening conditions, and their families.

The Fair was held on the grounds of Very Special Kids in Malvern and over 2,250 people attended.  Despite showers and a few worries it couldn’t go ahead, it was an amazing action packed and fun filled day, with plenty to do and see. Children had the opportunity to meet Dr Suess’ Cat in the Hat and the Lorax, alongside Shrek & Puss in Boots, as well as AFL mascots from Hawthorn, Melbourne, Richmond and Sydney. The smells of delicious food wafted around the grounds of Very Special Kids and many left with arms filled with fresh fruit and vegetables, flowers, homemade jams and toys.

On behalf of Very Special Kids, we wish to thank all of the volunteers, of which there were over 350, who generously gave their time to support the Fair. Your ongoing support helps us to continue to provide vital support to over 900 families across Victoria by providing essential family support services and access to respite and end-of-life care at Very Special Kids Hospice.

We would also like to thank all individuals, businesses and organisations that kindly donated products and services to help support Very Special Kids. The success of these events rely heavily on community support and we couldn’t have done it without you! And finally, a big, big thank you to everyone who attended, your support is very much appreciated.
