supporting families of children with life-threatening conditions for over 25 years

Twelve new volunteers complete training course

Another Volunteer Training Program has just been completed at Malvern. Twelve volunteers completed the nine week course covering topics including grief and loss, communication skills, self-care and support and supervision and children and grief.

During the course they also heard from experienced volunteers who were able to tell them give them an insight into the volunteer role. A child supported by Very Special Kids came to talk about living with her condition and her experience of having a volunteer come and visit her each week for some fun ‘special time’.

The twelve volunteers will now embark on one of four key trained volunteer roles – volunteering with the Royal Children’s Hospital Team, volunteering at Very Special Kids House or they may be linked to a family to provide support to family members. We hope to also recruit some of these volunteers to assist in the many events we have running throughout the year for families. Congratulations and thank you to them all.
