What are some of the benefits of workplace giving for employees?
|
- Employees don’t have to ‘think’ about donating, as after the initial set up it all happens automatically on a regular basis.
- Employees will receive the benefit of an upfront tax deduction within their weekly, fortnightly or monthly salary.
- Employees receive a payment summary via letter or email from their employer at the end of the financial year, which means that there is no need to keep receipts for tax purposes.
- It is suitable for people who are ‘time poor’ but still want to contribute to charities.
- By donating from your pre-tax income, it costs you less to support the charity you love.

Why should employers consider workplace giving?
|
- Raises corporate profile and boosts staff morale.
- The resulting positive publicity - both internal and external - greatly enhances an employer's reputation among employees and the wider community.
- The scheme is easy to administer for any payroll that can make pre-tax deductions. For more information on how easy it is to set up a workplace giving program for your organisation, download our ‘Getting Started’ fact sheet for employers.

How does workplace giving benefit the charity?
|
- Reduces administration and fundraising costs for Very Special Kids by guaranteeing a steady flow of income from donors who have committed to giving on a regular basis.
- Helps to bridge the gap – government funding covers only 20% of the $4 million needed to keep our doors open each year, the rest comes from generous members of the community like you!

Why is giving from my pre-tax income better?
|
Giving from your pre-tax income costs you less, but the charity receives the full benefit of your donation.
Every $100 you donate to Very Special Kids through workplace giving will cost you only $68.50 from your take-home pay (assuming you are in the 32.5% tax bracket).

Do I have to give a large amount to make it worthwhile?
|
Not at all! By joining together with your work colleagues, even relatively small donations can add up.
For example, if 100 work mates were to give $5 a week via workplace giving (which would only cost $3.43 each from your take home pay*), together you could donate $26,000 a year to Very Special Kids.
That’s enough to make sure six Victorian families receive an entire year of support as they care for a child with a life-threatening illness.

What is matched giving and how does it work?
|
Some employers even match their employee’s donations, doubling what you and your workmates can achieve through workplace giving.
For the employer, it is a great way to motivate staff and demonstrate your organisation’s commitment to supporting what is important to staff and the local community.
|
It's quite simple:
|
- Employers invite employees to enter into a workplace giving program.
- Generally, the donation amount will be a fixed amount that will be deducted on each pay day.
- The donation is paid directly by the employer to Very Special Kids. The workplace giving arrangement does not affect an employee’s gross income or other calculations, such as superannuation guarantee payments or fringe benefits (FBT).
