The Privacy Act 1988 (Commonwealth) governs the ways in which private sector organisations use, collect and disclose personal information. The Health Records Act 2000 (Victoria) governs the ways in which public and private sector organisations use, collect and disclose health information.
This privacy policy sets out the principles that Very Special Kids will follow in the management of the personal and health information of individuals.

The Privacy Policy

Very Special Kids is committed to protecting the privacy of individuals' personal information. Very Special Kids is bound by the National Privacy Principles set out in the Privacy Act 1988 (Commonwealth) and the Health Privacy Principles set out in the Health Records Act 2001 (Victoria) ("the Acts").
Very Special Kids will only collect, use or disclose personal and health information in accordance with the Acts and this privacy policy.
Very Special Kids will, from time to time, collect and use:

- Personal information in connection with Very Special Kids fundraising and promotional activities, for example, contact details of donors; and
|
- Personal and health information in connection with Very Special Kids family support services.

The types of personal and health information collected and the purposes for which that personal and health information will be used will depend on the exact circumstances in which the information is collected.
Very Special Kids will not disclose personal or health information of an individual to third parties except where: |
- The individual has consented to that disclosure;

- Third parties appointed by Very Special Kids require access to that information to perform services (in which case, Very Special Kids requires these contractors to keep that information confidential and not to use or disclose it for any purpose other than the purpose of performing those services);

- Very Special Kids is required or authorised by law to disclose that information, for example to law enforcement agencies; or
|
- Very Special Kids is otherwise permitted under the Acts to disclose that personal or health information.

- Very Special Kids will take all reasonable steps to protect all personal and health information held by it from misuse and loss and from unauthorised access, modification and disclosure.

Any person may seek access to personal or health information which Very Special Kids holds about that person by contacting Very Special Kids. Very Special Kids will provide access to that information in accordance with the Acts. There are certain exemptions which may apply to the provision of that information. Very Special Kids may charge an administration fee for granting access to information.
