When a child is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness, a family’s world is turned upside down. For many families it is the beginning of a roller coaster ride that is unpredictable and full of challenges. From the point of diagnosis, and even earlier, families experience a range of ongoing losses that impact on all family members in different ways.

The Family Support Team at Very Special Kids consists of professionals trained either in social work, psychology, family therapy and counselling. When a family joins Very Special Kids a member of the Family Support Team arranges, to meet the family, usually in the family home. The visit gives the family a personal introduction to our services while providing us with a greater understanding of their situation and specific needs.
