 | When a child is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness, a family’s world is turned upside down. For many families it is the beginning of a roller coaster ride that is unpredictable and full of challenges. From the point of diagnosis, and even earlier, families experience a range of ongoing losses that impact on all family members in different ways.
The Family Support Team provides counselling to families on a group, couple or individual basis. This counselling may occur intermittently as a family’s situation changes or as a series of ongoing sessions. The counselling is an opportunity for a parent, sibling or Very Special Kids child to express feelings and thoughts in a safe and non-judgemental environment, identify strategies that will assist them in dealing with the myriad of adjustments in their life and talk about their hopes and fears.
The Family Support Team includes highly qualified professionals who specialise in the provision of psycho/social support to families within a paediatric palliative care framework.
