Treasurer Launches a “Very Special” Partnership

On 27 July the Honourable Peter Costello, Commonwealth Treasurer and Federal Member for Higgins, will unveil the AXA Wing at Very Special Kids with the announcement of a two year partnership between AXA and Very Special Kids worth $230,000 a year.

The launch is to be held at Very Special Kids House in Malvern and also attending will be Mr Michael O’Brien, Member for Malvern, Andrew Penn, Group Chief Executive of AXA Asia Pacific and Sister Margaret Noone AM IBVM, Patron of Very Special Kids.

Mr Penn said “Very Special Kids is a unique organisation providing counselling and support services to Victorian families caring for children with life-threatening illnesses. AXA is delighted to provide this funding and become the principal partner of the “Life is for Living” Program which will fund the provision of specialist respite and end-of-life care for this group of children.”

David Agnew, CEO of Very Special Kids said “we are very grateful for the generous support provided by AXA. Through this partnership we can provide more than 300 days of respite and end-of-life care at Very Special Kids House, Australia’s first and Victoria’s only children’s hospice.

AXA’s support means more than 64 families will be able to access specialised nursing support and care at Very Special Kids House.”

This partnership will also provide an opportunity for AXA staff to volunteer their time at the House during school holiday periods when special activities are programmed to entertain the children. The recent school holiday program was based on Christmas in July and the response from families, children and AXA staff who volunteered was very positive.
